HOLYOKE – Wendell S. Roberts, 92, passed away December 20, 2014, at The Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, MA. Born in Northampton, MA, he joined the United States Army when he was 17 and served 5 years during WWII. He served in Panama and Europe. Mr. Roberts enjoyed writing poetry, fiction, and was an avid collector of rocks and minerals. He was the last Town Crier in Northampton and competed in the International Town Criers Competition in England on the Isle of Wight.
He leaves his loving wife of 42 years Marilyn (Welles) Roberts of Talcottville, CT; his children by a previous marriage, son William Roberts (deceased), son Bruce Roberts (Elaine)of Pepperill, MA: daughter Diane DiPietro of Westfield, MA; sister Joyce Roberts (Fred) of Bernardston, MA; he leaves 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of His Life will be held at 1 PM on January 3, 2015 at the Talcottville Congregational Church, 10 Elm Hill Road, Talcottville, CT with burial at a future date in Mount Hope Cemetery, Talcottville. New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
