HAMPDEN - Walter M. Sokolowski, 64, died August 24, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. Walter was a loving, caring family man who was loved by all. A United States Army veteran, Mr. Sokolowski served his country during the Vietnam War. He was an active member of a local sportsman club, enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, NASCAR racing and his biggest passion, his love for motorcycles. He had been employed at Diebold Inc. as a customer service engineer for 41 years. Predeceased by his parents, Walter M. and Bertha (Garick) Sokolowski, he leaves his wife, Linda (Goodwin) Sokolowski; son , Michael Sokolowski of Hampden; daughter , Denise Sokolowski of Springfield; brother, Eugene Sokolowski and his wife, Barbara; sister, Joan Mason, all of Florida; mother-in-law Shirley Goodwin; brother-in-law Wayne Goodwin and his wife, Janis; sister-in-law, Nancy Warren and her husband, John; sister-in-law, Robin Pope and her husband, Harry; 12 nieces and nephews; 7 great nieces and nephews; one great niece on the way and Cynthia Syphers, who was like a daughter. The visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA. The funeral will be held at 8:30 AM on Friday, August 27, 2010 at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC with a calling hour from 7:30 AM until the time of the service with burial with full military honors to follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
