Springfield – With broken hearts we said our goodbyes to our loving son, Thomas Joseph Antaya, (T. J.), age 30, on February 28, 2020.
He died at home in the loving arms of family members.
T. J. suffered damage to his central nervous system stemming from UNTREATED neuroleptic malignant syndrome induced by the continuous doses of Haldol while at a local hospital during Oct/Nov of 2014. T. J. underwent three brain surgeries for a grade II brain tumor as well as six weeks of successful radiation treatments five months prior to the repeated injections of Haldol. Shortly after a difficult shoulder reduction in July 2019, at the same local hospital, his nervous system started to quickly decline until he became bedridden and blind by December of 2019.
T. J. was a talented artist and loved his music, guitars and photographing nature.
His family meant the world to him and he will be painfully missed by all who loved him. T. J. leaves behind his mother, Janice Antaya, his father Thomas Antaya, his brothers, Jason (Annie) Antaya of Chicopee, Brian (Jen Colucci) Antaya of Chicopee, his sisters, Amanda Antaya of Springfield, MA and Aimee Antaya (Chad Lynch) and his adored nephew, Chad Lynch, Jr. and niece Layla Lynch, all of Springfield, MA. He also leaves behind many close friends and relatives, too many to mention.
He attended local schools in Springfield and was employed by Bartels Pools Inc. prior to his brain surgeries.
A private graveside memorial was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA was entrusted with the arrangements.
