Thelma M. Smith

GREENFIELD-Thelma M. Smith, 94, died February 5, 2013 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield, MA. Born on April 9, 1918 in Danville, IL to the late Daniel and Bertha (Fishbach) Anderson, she proudly served her country as a US Navy WAVE during WWII. Ms. Smith obtained her BS degree from the University of Illinois and taught public school for several years. She and her husband of 56 years raised their family in a loving environment, going to church every Sunday. She will be remembered for her nurturing efforts with her family which laid the foundation for her children to grow up confidently and respectful of others. Her interests included reading, stained glass design and sewing. Predeceased by her husband Paul Weston Smith Jr., she leaves a son, Paul Daniel Smith (Michelle Waddy) of Oakland, CA; daughter, Alison Smith (Steven T. Drakulich) of Greenfield, MA; grandchildren: Ulysses Smith, Octavia Waddy and Brooke Smith Savage; nieces, Barbara Von Schroder of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Peggy Jean Anderson Jones of IL, and nephews John Holstein of MN., Hal Anderson of Missouri, and Gordon Anderson of IL.
