Stephen G. “Murph” Murphy, 64, passed away on June 12, 2020.
A lifelong Springfield resident, he was born on April 1, 1956, a son of Daniel and Kathleen (Bryant) Murphy.
He loved taking his walks through the “X” and loved talking to cops and with anyone that would listen. He loved keeping the neighborhood safe. He loved his Bud Lights and sitting on the back porch watching everything at night. He always looked forward to speaking with his mother everyday and always enjoyed a good time with family. He loved talking about the Red Sox and Patriots, and if you were a Yankees fan, he would tip his hat to you.
He retired from the Carl Robinson Correctional Center and if his job would have let him, he would have been a correction officer his whole life.
He was full of life and Murph will be sadly missed. He is survived by his son, Michael Murphy of Springfield, two daughters: Christina Witherspoon (Earl) of Springfield, and Gina Murphy of Connecticut. He also leaves his siblings: Daniel Murphy of West Springfield, Patrick Murphy, Maryann Whitney (Rick), and Katie Murphy, of Springfield. He will be sadly missed by four grandchildren who he loved very much: Anthony Murphy, Memphis Witherspoon, Taylor Brown, and Paisley Southwick.
