EASTHAMPTON -Shirley (Dietz) Somerville,100, formerly of South Hadley, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2016 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. She was born in South Hadley on March 16, 1916, the daughter of the late Frank & Margaret (Kaufman) Dietz.
She was predeceased by her husband Samuel, her son Samuel, brothers Frank, Milton, and Edward Dietz, and sisters Ruth McCullough, Margaret Schulz, and Gladys Dean. She is survived by a brother, Lincoln Dietz, of Ballston Lake, New York; daughters Judith Ruland of Holyoke, MA, Barbara McCarthy (James), of Easthampton, MA, and Sally Dumont (Thomas) of Sunderland, MA; grandsons Arthur Ruland (Judith) of Springfield, MA, and Brian Ruland of Gardner, MA; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jayla Ruland of Michigan and several nieces and nephews.
