WEST SPRINGFIELD – Samuel H. Jones, 66, passed away on January 3, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.
Born on April 12, 1950 in New York City to the late Christopher and Harriet (Dingle) Jones, he was a graduate of Mt. Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, MA in the ABC Program, and of American International College. He was also a brother of IOTA Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. since 1974.
He lived his life by faith, family and fraternity. His career in social work included the Hampden County Manpower Consortium, the Key Program, the Department of Mental Health, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Child and Families and the Sisters of Mercy at Brightside. He thoroughly enjoyed culinary endeavors, frequenting diners, drive-ins and dives.
He leaves his wife Susan Jackson of West Springfield; daughter Chelsea JacksonJones of Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard; brother Nathaniel Jones of New York City, sister Mary Jones of Bronx, NY; sister-in-law Shirley Jackson of Milton, MA and Roxann OvertonPeterkin of Chicopee, MA whom he regarded as a sister; nieces and nephews Sharon, Pam, Philip, Christopher and Julius as well as many other nieces and nephews.
The wake for Mr. Jones will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 3:00-4:15 PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA. A service will follow officiated by Pastors Entric and Valerie Fluitt of Chicopee Church of God.
