EAST LONGMEADOW-Ruth L. (Kellerman) Menzel, 91, of East Sandwich and East Longmeadow, MA, entered into eternal rest on March 1, 2012 after a long illness. Born in Taylor, PA on March 20, 1920 to Charles and Helen (Staples) Kellerman, she attended Taylor Public Schools and graduated from Marywood College (now University) in Scranton, PA with a BS in Commercial Education. After college, she taught high school in Preston, PA and later at a business school. She was very proud of being a “candy striper” at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem, PA during WW II. She moved to Springfield, MA after marrying Herbert W. Menzel, Sr. in 1946. She formerly lived in the 16 Acres section of Springfield and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. She worked part time for several lawyers and later for various accounting firms. She and her husband were founding members of the NAFCA Pioneer Valley Chapter 8. She was editor and publisher of their newsletter for many years. She was a member of the Springfield Chapter Order #143 of the Eastern Star in Springfield, MA. In 1980, she and her husband moved to East Sandwich, MA where they attended Our Savior Lutheran Church in Mashpee, MA. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert W. Menzel, Sr. in 2007. She leaves a daughter, HelenAnn M. Jillson (Bruce) of Sandwich, MA, three sons, Charles R. Menzel (Pauline) of Fort Mill, SC, Herbert W. Menzel, Jr. (James Mallek) of Springfield, MA and Paul J. Menzel (Joanie) of Westfield, MA. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Baystate VNA and Hospice and the staff and care workers at East Village Place for the care, love and compassion that they gave to Ruth and her family. New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill St., Springfield, MA is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, MA 01109. Interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 400 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, MA 01109, Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Association 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or a charity of one’s choice.
