SPRINGFIELD-Rupert G. Cohen, 78, passed away on October 4, 2011 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Jamaica on December 18, 1932 he had lived in the Springfield area since the early 1980’s coming from New York. Rupert had served as a police officer while living in Jamaica and later he worked as a nurse at White Plains Hospital, White Plains, NY and at hospitals in the Bronx. Rupert enjoyed playing the bugle and listening to Big Band music. Predeceased by his parents, his wife, Ivalin (Rochester) Cohen and his son, Mark Cohen, he leaves his son, Elvis Cohen of Jamaica; stepson, Garnett Richards of Florida; daughters: Sandra Cohen of Springfield, MA, Sonia Cohen and Janice Harrison and her husband, Courtney of Canada; step daughters: Norma Dwyer and Andrea Richards of Springfield, MA and Marlene Coley of Jamaica; brother, Alvin Cohen of Canada; sister, Carmen Cohen of CT; grandchildren: Tia, Tajour, Zania, Dwayne, Terrence, Donya, Craig, Matthew, Kaedon, Richard, Jhneal, Jewel and Kevin and two great grandchildren, Jayson and Jeremiah. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 10:00-11:30 AM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 AM.
