Roger Earl
Bacon
Nov 21, 1946 — Jul 29, 2026
Chicopee
Roger E. Bacon, 79, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, at South Hadley Rehabilitation & Nursing Facility. He was born on November 21, 1946, in Northampton, Massachusetts. Roger grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, and spent many years working as a machinist at U.S. Tsubaki in Holyoke before retiring. He took pride in his work, valued hard work and dedication, and was committed to providing for his family. Roger had a passion for life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed trying his luck with scratch-off tickets and gambling, listening to old country music, singing karaoke, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Whether gathered around a table or sitting in the living room, he loved "cussing and discussing" with those closest to him. An avid bowler, Roger spent many years enjoying the sport and was especially proud of bowling a perfect 300 game, an achievement recognized with a commemorative plaque. He was also an enthusiastic football fan. His beloved New England Patriots were always his favorite team, with the Green Bay Packers coming in a close second. Sundays during football season were a little more exciting because of him. A longtime member of the Moose Lodge in Chicopee, Roger valued friendship, laughter, and the connections he made throughout his life. Roger is survived by his loving children, Lori (Joe) Spellman of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Kenneth (Heather) Bacon of Holyoke, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Willis Glidden III, Shawn (Amber) Glidden, Christopher (Ewelina) Glidden, Aaron Spellman, Katelyn (Lito) Bacon, Kelsie (Adrian) Bacon, and Kameron Bacon, along with his beloved great-grandchildren, Oakley Glidden and Conrad Glidden. He is also survived by his brother, Harold "Sonny" Bacon, and his sister, Sharon Fry. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda (Lafond) Bacon; his parents, Harold E. Bacon and Marie C. (Tudryn) Bacon; his brother, Albert E. Bacon; and his cherished granddaughter, Kirsten E. Bacon. Roger will be remembered for his quick smile, his love of laughter, and his ability to make those around him feel welcome. Family and friends will fondly remember hearing him say, "You know what I mean," and seeing his signature Facebook posts ending with, "Nice V Nice." Those simple phrases became uniquely his and will forever bring a smile to the faces of those who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family. Although our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in the memories, laughter, and love Roger shared throughout his life. His legacy lives on through his family, his friends, and the countless memories he created. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. New England Funeral & Cremation Center, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA has been entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit Roger’s memorial page at www.nefcc.net for expressions of sympathy.
