Robert R. Lehan

Robert R. Lehan, director, playwright, teacher, and actor took his final bow peacefully at home in Westfield on March 31, 2020.  Robert (Bob) was born May 8, 1933 in Boston and spent his early years in Brighton, MA before joining the U.S. Navy in 1951. Upon returning home, Bob attended Boston University, achieving a Masters of Fine Arts in Directing.  There, Bob met and married his lifelong creative partner, Marjory.

During the 1960s he worked at the famed Provincetown Playhouse, and taught at Midwestern College in Denison, Iowa before accepting a position in the Westfield State University English Department, where he taught theater for almost 30 years.

Bob was a published playwright with Pioneer Drama Service and a member of the Director’s and Playwright’s Guilds. He will be loved and remembered fondly by many friends and neighbors. Bob leaves his wife of 60 years, Marjory Lehan of Westfield, MA; son Eric Lehan and his wife Laura Pitter in Brooklyn, NY; daughter Claudia Lehan in San Francisco, CA; daughter Joanna Lehan and her partner Keith Miller in NY, NY; grandchildren Emma and Jacob Lehan and their mother Elaine Fitzgerald and grandson Eli Dew and his father, Harris Dew.
