Richard S. Buffum

Longmeadow – Richard S. Buffum, 89, a fifty- seven year Longmeadow, MA resident, passed away on October 1, 2024. He was born in Westfield, MA on June 28, 1935, the son of the late Raymond Buffum and Emma (Beals) Strong Buffum Lyon. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School Class of 1953. He started his career as a manager at the Friendly’s Restaurant in Middletown, CT. He then went on to run the Newman Center Cafeteria at UMASS for thirty- six years. His next venture was Jennifer’s Kitchen in Chicopee along with his son Scott and daughter Cindi where he was the bookkeeper, greeter and friend to all the people he had the pleasure of meeting. He loved working at Jennifer’s, yard work, his canine companion “Hutch” and in his free time, fishing off his boat at the Cape. He is survived by his son Scott Buffum of Longmeadow, his brother Brad Lyon and sister Sarah Lyon, both of New Mexico. He also leaves his grandson John Sances, four great-grandchildren and many friends. Sadly, he was predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara (Hutcheons) Buffum, his daughter Cynthia Bell and grandson Stephen Sances. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 4-7PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA. Burial will be held at a later date.
