AGAWAM--Paul Anthony Macdonald, 74, who passed away unexpectedly on September 21, 2012, was born in Chelsea, MA on June 9, 1938 to John A. Macdonald and Cecelia M. (Gurnon) Macdonald. Paul leaves behind his wife, Sandi (Wallace) Macdonald and has been predeceased by his parents, John and Cecelia and his brother, John A. Macdonald. He also leaves his daughter, Susan Macdonald and her husband Stanwood Chang of Spencer, MA; son Troy Hill, his wife Vanessa, and their children Dante and DeVaughn of Longmeadow, MA; daughter Ta'Wonda Hill-Patchkofsky, her husband James, and their children Cassondra and Grason of Springfield, MA; his mother-in-law Ethel Hudson of Springfield, MA; sister Mary Potyrala of Holyoke, MA; sister Martha Gola and her husband Doug of Monson, MA; sister-in-law Pete' DeCuir; brother-in-law Grayling Wallace and his wife Donna of Bellingham, MA; brother-in-law Roger Wallace and his wife Jacqui of Amherst, MA; also to cherish his memory Frances Macdonald of Holyoke, MA and many nieces, nephews and friends.Paul graduated from Holyoke Catholic High School in 1956 and went to work as a Baker's Assistant for Dreikorn's Bakery in Holyoke, MA, followed by a tour of duty for the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hazelwood and U.S.S. Steinaker. He ultimately retired in 1993 as Hydro-Operations Supervisor with Northeast Utilities after 31 years of service.The time following Paul's retirement was filled with joyous involvement in the Canaan Baptist Church of Christ where he was ordained a Deacon in 2008, Secretary of the Culinary Committee and member of the Praise Team. In addition to being a tenor in the church's Mass Choir, Paul also lent his wonderful voice to the church's Men of Promise Choir, of which he was a vice president, the Freedom Choir of Springfield, of which he was the chaplain, and many local community theater productions. The wake for Mr. Macdonald is on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, from 5:00-8:00 PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Canaan Baptist Church of Christ, 1430 Carew Street, Springfield, MA beginning at 11:00 AM with a service at 12:00 Noon. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.At the time of his death, Paul chose to help others through tissue donation.
