WILBRAHAM – Morrison “Scotty” Gray Jr., passed away on April 30, 2011. Born on July 29, 1920 in Ludlow, MA to the late Morrison and Robina Gray of Dundee Scotland, he was a lifelong resident of the area. During the 1930’s he worked in the CCC under the Roosevelt administration and proudly served in the 8th Air Force during WWII as a B24 pilot earning the DFC. As a young boy in Springfield he was the marble champion of New Boston Rd, which led to a love of golf at which he excelled becoming a scratch golfer and Wilbraham Country Club Champion. Always calm under pressure he was in the right place at the right time to save a little girl from drowning earning recognition from the President. Scotty was predeceased by his loving wife, Jean (Allen) Gray; his sisters: Mary Malcolm, Gladys Nichols and Edith Wickett; he is survived by his brother, Alexander Gray, of Jacksonville, FL; his daughters: Elizabeth Merrill, Catherine Short, and her husband, Andrew, all of Wilbraham, MA; grandchildren: Rebecca Short, Cristian Merrill, Molly Conroy, and her husband, Michael; great grandchildren: Brooke and Michael Conroy III and Nathan Merrill.
