Millicent Coombes-Gibson

SPRINGFIELD- Millicent A. Coombes-Gibson, 81, passed away on March 6, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Barbados, West Indies on September 3, 1932 to Woodruff and Lillian (Husbands) Coombes, she arrived in the United States in 1978, worked for many years at Providence Hospital and was a member of Heritage Baptist Church.

She and her late husband Frank Gibson have one daughter, Eustine Patterson. Predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers: Wilfred “Sonny” Coombes of Liverpool, England, Gregston Coombes of London, England, Percy Husbands and Lloyd Coombes of Barbados, West Indies; sisters: Maudrey Darlington of Yorkshire, England and an infant sister, she leaves to cherish her memory her brothers Fitz E. Coombes and sister-in-law Kelsie Coombes of Roanoke, VA and Wilbert Coombes, of Barbados, West Indies; her sister Eloise Coombes Shannon of Yorkshire, England; her grandson Roger Fitzgerald Coombes of Barbados, West Indies; four great-grandchildren: Javan and Ryshawn Coombes of Springfield , Irene Coombes of Boston and Romel Coombes of London, England; three great-great grandchildren and Jennie Howard, Eulene Mason and Andra Johnson, nieces, nephews and many other friends and family members.

A heartfelt thank you is sent to the staff at Baystate Medical Center and Country Estates for the tender care given to Millicent. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 10-11:15 AM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC , 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA proceeding to Heritage Baptist Church for a service at 12 Noon with Pastor Curtis Rowe presiding. Her final resting place will be in Barbados, West Indies. Please visit www.nefcc.net
