Marjorie Elaine (Staples) Sears, 98, passed away on February 15, 2022.
Marjorie was born on the island of Vinalhaven, Maine. She grew up on a farm for eighteen years before moving to Springfield, Massachusetts.
She spent her last years living with her daughter, Coral, in Sunderland, Massachusetts. She was the first child of Lizzie (Norwood) Staples. She was predeceased by two wonderful husbands, Clair Rief and Walter Sears.
She is survived by four daughters and two sons, Patricia Albert (Lynn) and Judith Rief of Florida, Coral Rief-Duffy (Greg), Dianna Rief, Walter Rief, and Arthur Rief (Mary) of Massachusetts. She is also survived by her beloved honorary daughter, Mary Beatrice Bell (Robert) of Georgia. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Marjorie was predeceased by three half-brothers, Alfred, Robert, and Walter Staples. She was also predeceased by three brothers Eugene, George, and Victor Staples, as well as one sister, Frida Berger. She is survived by two brothers and one sister, Ralph (Joan) and David Staples both of Maine, and Jennie Schumacher of West Virginia. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was a child of the Great Depression while growing up on Vinalhaven, although the island still provided a happy childhood for Marjorie and her siblings. As a young woman during World War II, she did her part by working in the factories in Massachusetts. Marjorie experienced 10 decades of a life well lived and most importantly, Marjorie loved and always felt loved by those around her.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 12:45PM processing to the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA for a 2PM committal service where she will join her husband Walter in eternal rest. New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
