Marguerite V. Machia

June 18, 1939 — August 31, 2019

Longmeadow -

Marguerite (Peg) V. (Daigneault) Machia passed away at the Jewish Nursing Home with her beloved family at her bedside on Saturday, August 31, 2019.

She was born in Chicopee, MA on June 18, 1939, the daughter of the late Charles and Cecilia (Duval) Daigneault.

She lived most of her life in West Springfield. She inspired so many people in her lifetime for being strong in the face of adversity. She put the lives of her 5 children before all else, making sure that she was their strongest advocate and biggest fan. When her children had grown into young adults, Marguerite went back to school to earn her degree in business. With this she went on to become a supervising Procedures Clerk in the Probation Department at the Holyoke District Court, where she worked for 20 years until her retirement. Marguerite had a passion for helping others. She genuinely cared about everybody, whether she knew them personally or not, and always offered her help to anybody in need. She was a mother, sister and best friend to many and will be remembered as such.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert Machia and her two brothers, Roland and Theodore Daigneault.

She is survived by her sons: Michael (Mildred) of West Springfield and Wayne of Agawam; daughters: Lynne Dempsey (William) of Chicopee, Karen Hoynoski of VA, and Madeline Presz (Timothy) of Chicopee. She also leaves her sister Germaine Fagnant of Leominster, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at New England Funeral Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA beginning at 9AM concluding with a service at 11AM.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the phenomenal staff at Spectrum Hospice for the care and compassion that they provided to Peg. Memorial contributions made be made in Peg’s honor to Spectrum Home Health and Hospice Care, 770 Converse Street, Longmeadow, MA 01106. Visit www.nefcc.net
