Margaret (Canny) Whitman, 89, of Enfield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the love of her family. Born on April 12, 1937 in Ballintava, Dunmore, County Gallway, Ireland, one of ten children born to of the late John and Ellen (Martin) Canny. Margaret (Peggy) a kind and gentle person was the beloved wife of Robert A Whitman, with whom she shared her life in Enfield, Connecticut for 47 years until his passing in 2007. A devoted Catholic, Margaret was a longtime member of Saint Martha’s church in Enfield. Peggy enjoyed gardening and listening to the radio before going into assisted living where she was cherished by all and became a talented artist. She will be forever remembered by her loving children Bill Whitman and Colleen Whitman of Feeding Hills and Roberta Whitman. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren Sasha and Bohrs. Margaret is predeceased by her siblings Mary Kelly, Ted Canny, Pat Canny, John Canny, Nora Nolan, Helena Grady, Tom Canny, Dell O’Meara and Dennis Canny. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Baystate Medical Center for the wonderful care and compassion shown during Margaret’s time there. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her. Services for Margaret will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
