Malinda M. Smutek

Dr. Malinda M. Smutek, 66, of Chicago, formerly of Springfield, MA. Beloved daughter of the late Walter and Wanda, nee Gardzienski. Dr. Smutek earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from American International College and her Master of Arts and Doctorate in Education degrees from the University of Massachusetts. She taught in Springfield and Holyoke Public School Systems and served as Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences for the Bunker Hill Community College, all in Massachusetts. In Illinois, she served as Dean of Business and Technology at Kishwaukee Community College and was affiliated with SAS at DePaul University of Chicago. She recently retired from the Chicago Public Schools as an Assistant Principal and held memberships in several professional organizations. Dr. Smutek was also an active volunteer with Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly and North Park College. Visitation and Prepast, Saturday, June 15th, 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave., Chicago. Interment June 18, 2013 at 11:30 AM at St. Ann's Cemetery, Palmer, MA.
