HOLYOKE-Lucille “Kewpie” Neveu Lemay Smith, 89, passed out July 2, 2013. Lucille was the daughter of the late and former Chicopee Alderman Archer Neveu and Marie Lessard Neveu. She was born August 26, 1923 in Chicopee. Lucille was a communicant of Ste. Rose de Lima Church for 84 years. She moved to Holyoke in 2006 and joined Holy Cross Church, now Our Lady of the Cross Parish. Lucille graduated from Ste. Joan of Arc School and attended St. Jeromes High School. She was a graduate of Burreby Rose Beauty Academy. For 38 years, Lucille and her sister Annette Thabeault were in partnership at Lou Annes Beauty Salon, which was located in Peoples Savings Bank on High Street in Holyoke. After the death of her sister, Lucille went on the road to peoples homes to do hair for people who couldn’t get out. She also volunteered for Hospice Life Care for 6 years. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving daughter and best friend Dianne Lemay and her fiancé David Laliberte. She always said of David, “If I had a son I would want him to be like you.” She also leaves many nephews, especially Richard Dent who was so kind to her and many nieces; her best friend Millie Reid and her daughter Cathleen. She was predeceased by her husband Maurice Lemay in 1971 and two brothers and six sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Life Care in Holyoke, MA where she volunteered. Family and friends are invited to a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of the Cross Parish, Holyoke.
