Leroy Hassell, Sr.

SPRINGFIELD-Leroy Hassell, Sr., 79, died December 30, 2012 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. Born on May 10, 1933 in Benjestown, TN to the late O.D. and Johnnie Mae (Brooks) Hassell, he had worked for 30 years in the Department of Public Works for the City of Springfield. Mr. Hassell proudly served his country in the US Marines Corps during the Korean War. Predeceased by his parents, his son, Leroy Hassell, Jr. and a sister, Doll Hassell, he leaves his sons: Wendell Hassell and Dee Dee Hassell ; daughters: Patrice Hassell, Sonjia Hassell and Mia Hassell all of Springfield, MA; brothers: Connie Taylor and his wife, Mattie of Gary, IN, Willie Brooks, Jr. of San Antonio, TX and Thomas Brooks of Memphis, TN; sister, Emily Shinault of Memphis, TN; uncle, Harry Hassell of Buffalo, NY and his aunts, Mosey Hassell of Benjestown, TN and Mary Hassell of Buffalo, NY; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, January 25, 2013 from 12:00-2:00PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill St., Springfield, MA with burial in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
