Kent Mashimo

April 8, 2001 — April 25, 2023

Son to Hiroshi Mashimo and Martha Lundgren, Kent Akira of Lincoln/Sudbury MA was the youngest among his siblings, Elise and Bryce.
On a tranquil spring day of April 25th, he departed us. The more one knew Kent, the less one knew Kent …and this, coming from his father who was present from the moment of first breath to his final, may seem odd. Yet for those who knew him, his understanding was often awesomely beyond our own: his intricate purposeful folds that eventuated in his artfully intricate Origami, the outpouring of passion and dazzling technique playing Toscanini or Bach violin pieces, and his jaw-dropping precision of tying delicate fly-fishing lures. Such were the complexity and beauty within an unfathomably profound soul that remained largely quiet and humble, with occasional moments of outwardly beaming joy or ecstasy that melted those around him with sheer radiance and filled our hearts with his energy and passion.
He was truly touched by God’s gifts of patience, skill, inquisition, kindness and persistence - so manifest in his studies of martial arts, his calligraphy and sketches, his love of the sciences, and his nuanced appreciation of the arts. As we envisioned the mirage for a longer life and promising future, and looked forward to his college graduation in the near horizon, we take solace that he is at peace, carrying the spirit of eternal love and faith of those who knew him into the next world. He flourished with the splendor of a spring Japanese Cherry Blossom, and his passing reminds us of the evanescence of beauty and life, but the durability of memories and love that fill our hearts.
