Judy H. Brooks

Amherst - Judy (Harris) Brooks, beloved wife, mother, and sister, passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2018.

Born on January 27, 1944 in Cabin John, Maryland to the late Irving and Pauline (Williams) Harris.

She was an educator for thirty-five years, teaching at Pelham Elementary School, Brookings Elementary School in Springfield and Fort Totten Elementary School in Maryland.

Judy was a forty-six-year Amherst resident, politically active in the League of Women Voters, former co-director of ABC (A Better Chance) program, former member of the Amherst Select Board, and a delegate to several Democratic state and national conventions.  She loved working in her flower gardens, spending time with her family and relaxing at the beach.

Judy will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Barry Brooks, Sr., her son Barry Brooks, Jr., her daughter-in-law Mellisa Brooks, all of Amherst and her daughter Bonnie Brooks of Springfield.  She also leaves two brothers; David Harris and his wife Theresa and Stanley Harris and his wife Sharon, both of Maryland.  She will always be remembered by two grandsons; Christopher Brooks, Cornell Brooks Robbins, and great granddaughter Marley Brooks.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 1pm at the Amherst High School Auditorium, 21 Matoon Street, Amherst, MA.
