Joseph Michalak

November 16, 1941 — February 19, 2017

Belchertown – Joseph Michalak, 75, passed away at home on Sunday, February 19, 2017.

He was the son of the late Joseph Michalak and Edna (Hazel) Boynton.  He attended local schools and was a lifelong Belchertown resident.

He was retired from the Belchertown DPW as the transfer station supervisor.  Joe will be remembered as a hard worker who drove a taxi at a younger age, was a professional truck driver for Eastern Container Corporation and other companies, and a heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Josephine (Legere) Michalak, two sons, Randy (Jacqueline) of Belchertown, and Tracy (and his companion Sylvia) of Ware; four daughters, Debbra Bren (Bruce) of Palmer, Francine Paquette (Mark) of Ware, Christine Snowden (Larry) of Bondsville and Karen Platt (Bruce) of Three Rivers.  He also leaves three brothers, Gary Michalak of Monson, Leroy Boynton of Palmer, and Richard Boynton (Sissy) of Palmer, and three sisters; Avis McDonald of Wilbraham, Norma Bosworth (Walter) of Belchertown, and Donna Kaplan (Joe) of Washington state.  He will be sadly missed by eight grandchildren, Tara Driscoll (Aaron), Joseph Michalak, Jason and Devon Bren, Matthew Berthiaume, Kyle Michalak, and Ashley and Jamie Platt, as well as four great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his grandson Aaron Michalak and also his best friend Derik McDonald.

A graveside service was held at South Cemetery on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2 PM. New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA 01108 assisted the family.  Please visit www.nefcc.net
