SPRINGFIELD-Joseph Charles Jernigan, 68 departed this life on March 3, 2013 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA. He acknowledged and accepted Christ in his life prior to his death. Joseph was born in Springfield, MA the son of Willie E. Jernigan Sr. and the late Mary (Wright) Jernigan. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife Lois (Rushin) Jernigan, a brother, Willie E. Jernigan Jr. and step-father Eugene Rankin. J.C. was fond of fishing, hunting, car racing and listening to the blues. He loved telling stories about his grandfather during the years he lived in Georgia with his grandparents and extended family.He attended local school in Springfield, MA. In the late 70’s J.C. was medically retired from a Holyoke Upholstery Supply Company and was self-employed for the remainder of his working years.J.C. leaves a beloved son Joseph C. Jernigan, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Natasha Jernigan, four grandchildren: Adrianna, Caitlynn, Tashun, and Elijah, two step- daughters Melcina and Ann Warren of Springfield, MA, one step -son Kim Warren, three brothers Donald (Brenda) Jernigan of Crestview, Fl., David (Hazel) Jernigan of Oceanside CA., Dennis Rankin of San Diego, CA; two sisters Barbara Hall (Larry) and Mary Rankin both of Springfield, MA. He also leaves his significant other Annie Warren, a special cousin Diane, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will miss him.Visitation will be on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill St., Springfield, MA with a service at 12NOON.
