Springfield – John J. Murphy, 78, passed away at home on October 5, 2017.
He was born on April 29, 1939 in Dublin, Ireland to Joseph and Eileen (Heron) Murphy and resided in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield working as a union electrician.
John is predeceased by his parents, wife Joanne (Harte) Murphy and three sisters. He leaves sons Brian Layfield and his wife (Rocio) of Springfield and Michael Layfield and his wife (Joyce) of San Diego CA, grandchildren Kennedy, Salma, Diego and Alan Layfield, sister Magdalena Doolley of Ireland and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 6-8 PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield MA. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Michael’s Church, 110 Maple St., East Longmeadow, MA.
Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of choice. Please visit www.nefcc.net
