AGAWAM-John “J.J.” McCarthy, 87, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2013. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Jane Ginley Brown McCarthy. He is also survived by his beloved children John McCarthy Jr. and wife Sue, Thomas McCarthy and partner Karlynn Carlson, Jill McCarthy Hill and husband Kevin, Sara Werder and husband Richard, Edward Brown and wife Doreen, Kathaleen McHugh and husband Patrick and Daniel Brown. He will be missed by his cherished grandchildren Ryan and Jerica McCarthy, Shannon and Courtney Brown, Kirsi and Christopher Werder and John and Thomas McHugh and by his great-granddaughter Kayla McCarthy. J.J. served his country in the Navy during WW II. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed eating out and vacationing in Florida. His favorite golf partner was his dear friend Johnny Cross. J.J. and his dear brother Gene McCarthy (now deceased) were co-owners of Mac Company Plumbing & Heating Supply and Franklin Reality. Services with full military honors will be held on June 7, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Agawam Senior Center, 954 Main St., Agawam, MA 01001 or the Soldiers Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
