Chicopee - Jeanette J Williams-Charkiewicz (Chwalek) 92, was called safely home on Friday, February 3, 2017 while residing at Birch Gardens Nursing and Rehab.
She was born in Medrechow, Poland, on November 17, 1924, the eldest of three children to the late Alexander Chwalek and Katherine (Mastalerz) Chwalek.
She came to this country in 1925 and was raised in Gilbertville and Ware, MA and eventually settled in Springfield.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Roger E Williams in 1975 and then by her second husband Edward Charkiewicz.
She was a loving mother to 5 daughters and one step-daughter. She was predeceased by her oldest daughter Joan and son-in-law, Joseph Justice of Hampton, VA. She leaves her loving daughters, Ruth Fife of Westfield, MA, Pamela and her husband Howard Reed of Naples FL, Karen and her husband Bruce Gutkowski of Chicopee, MA, Denise (Bebee) and her wife Donna Jones of Indian Orchard, MA and Rosemarie and her husband Joseph Serra of Wales, MA. She leaves her sister Jennie Kane of Chicopee, MA and brother Alexander Chwalek and his wife Jean of Springfield, MA.
Jeanette, also known as Jane, worked as a parts inspector at many places of employment. Most notably during WWII she worked at the Springfield Armory working on M-1s. She had a very strong faith in God and was a communicate of the Polish Catholic National Church where her father played the organ and she sang in the choir. She had many hobbies including cross stitch, sewing, reading, cooking big Polish meals for her family and lovingly turning her back yard into a garden of Eden. Each day she would complete the daily cross word puzzle in the local newspaper and had a vast knowledge on so many subjects which she shared with everyone. She loved her pets and would spoil them unabashedly.
She leaves 8 cherished grandchildren; Joseph Justice Jr and his wife Michelle, Brian Fife, Lisa Reed, Shilo Cutler, Jane Masse, Jonathan Reed and his wife Renee, Jennifer Doolittle and her husband Steven, Amber Smith and her fiancé Jason, and many great grandchildren.
Jeanette’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 8:30AM - 9:30AM with a service to follow at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA 01108. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Please visit www.nefcc.net
