James “Jim” Theres, 92, of Springfield, MA passed away peacefully, among loved ones, on Friday May 19, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Brockton, MA on September 28,1930, the son of the late Charles and Amelia (Propas) Theres. Jim is survived by his loving wife of seventy-one years, Shirley Anne (Jakubiec) Theres. They were married on May 14, 1952 in Springfield. He is also survived by his daughter Brenda (Theres) Dunley, two granddaughters; Kristine Dunley and Kaitlin Dunley. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Judith Jakubiec, Jean Jakubiec Graziano and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Joseph Jakubiec and his brother Charles Theres and sisters; Joan Vrahnos, Pauline Beeler, Bessie Asselin and Alice Martin. Jim attended Trade High School in Springfield and enlisted in the Marine Corps following graduation where he developed a lifelong love for photography. His photos in the service were taken from airplanes and helped his fellow Marines navigate the landscape. Jim went on to marry his high school sweetheart Shirley Anne and began a career as a tile setter working in homes and buildings all over the city and nearby towns. He was owner and operator of The House of Tile in Springfield. He held the title of President of The Wilbraham Camera Club. Later the club merged with Springfield Photographic Society which he was also a member and winning many awards. James Theres had a long and beautiful life during which the people who were lucky enough to know him were blessed with his patience and generosity as a selfless and giving individual. He will forever be loved and missed by many. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
