James John Kennedy

James John “Jim” Kennedy, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, and into the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on May 13, 2024. Born on August 20, 1933, in Springfield, MA to Timothy and Anna Kennedy, Jim grew up in Hungry Hill and graduated from Cathedral High School. He proudly served in the US Army and later became a retired member of the Local International Iron Workers. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Janice Lorette Kennedy, as well as his two brothers John Kennedy and Frank Kennedy and his two sisters Mary Masuck and Kathleen Mullins. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carole Mercier Kennedy (her children, Terry, Bonnie, Rick and their families). He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: son David Kennedy and wife Carolyn of Westfield, MA, daughter Lisa Kennedy of Agawam, MA and daughter Sheila Bennett and husband David of Westfield, MA. His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren David James and Ryan Kennedy and Mikayla, Tyler and Daniel Bennett. Jim was known for his passion for sports, especially as an avid Yankees fan. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family. He was a member at Bethany Assembly of God in Agawam, MA for 50 years. His unwavering love, kindness and wisdom enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. A funeral service to honor Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 10AM at Bethany Assembly of God, 580 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Viewing hours will be held from 10 to 11AM, directly followed by the funeral service. Burial with military honors will follow at Agawam Center Cemetery, 820 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched forever.
