SPRINGFIELD - Ivan John Romashko, 86, of Springfield passed away April 16th at Loomis House, Holyoke. Born in Chicopee to Steve and Irene Miskiewicz Romashko, he was a graduate of Chicopee High, Western Mass. School of Pharmacy and Westfield State Teachers College. He worked as a pharmacist and retired from teaching at Westfield High in 1992. Following his retirement he worked in the pharmacy at the Hampden County House of Correction. He was a military history buff, and interested in cars, airplanes, cameras and electronics. He and his wife, Barbara, lived in their home for 52 years following their marriage in 1962 at Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, of which he was a member.
Besides his wife, the former Barbara Chalmers, he leaves his son David of Amherst, daughter Lisa and son-in-law Brian Daley and his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Garrett, and Griffin, all of Springfield. He is survived by a sister, Nina Pajak of Longwood, FL, his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Alexander and Marcia Romashko of Waukesha, WI, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Thomas and Jane Chalmers of Amherst and The Villages, FL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law Michael Pajak and nephew, Thomas Chalmers.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care he received at Loomis House. To honor John’s wishes, there will be a graveside prayer service at the convenience of the family.
