Ida Roberts

SPRINGFIELD-Ida Roberts, 86, died on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center. She was born on April 9, 1926 in Kingston. A Springfield resident since 1955 she was employed as a nurses’ aide in hospitals and nursing homes in New York City and locally at Mercy Hospital, Heritage Hall and East Longmeadow Nursing Home. An active member of Foster Memorial Church for over forty years, she sang in the choir and was a member of the Fosterians. She will be remembered fondly as a person who loved to laugh and that wonderful laugh made you join in her happiness. Predeceased by her parents, her husband of 57 years, Adolphus “Robie” Roberts, who died on February 4, 2012, her daughter, Jeanette Lindo and sister Veronica Azan. She is survived by three daughters: Sonia Restall of Carlise, MA, Marlene Baksh (Mahmond) of Springfield, MA and Junior Reid (Patrick) of Warrington, PA; six grandchildren: Taj Reid, Carmen Tulloch, Helena Grant, Ashley Boots, Jason Lindo and Steven Lindo; three great grandchildren: Phennah, Stella and Farha; four nieces: Barbara Calnek of Buffalo, NY, Lana Ornklint of New York City, New York, Michele Azan of New York City, NY and Annette Azan Baker of Sag Harbor, New York; brother-in-law Felix Straughn and his wife Naomi; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. The viewing will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA with a service at 12NOON with The Reverend Barbara Schenk officiating.
