Agawam - Harvey E. Young, 83, passed away at the home of his loving sister, Laura M. DeSpirt, of Agawam, on January 16, 2019 after a brief illness.

The son of the late Pierce L. Young and Laura M. (Adams) Young, Harvey was born on May 16, 1935 in Portland, Maine.  He was raised in Springfield, MA from the age of 5, the eldest of 4 children. As an adult, Harvey resided in West Springfield for over 30 years before moving to the Demopolis, Alabama area in 1992. As a young man, Harvey served in the Massachusetts National Guard, and later, enjoyed a career as a long haul truck driver.  In his retirement, He enjoyed cooking, spending time with his grandchildren, and walking his beloved dog, Lulu. Harvey was an avid reader who would never be found without a great book nearby.  He was an active member of Forkland United Methodist Church.

Harvey is survived by his companion of 7 years, Ellen Ousley of Demopolis, Alabama, his daughter, Denise Foery and her husband, William Foery, of Searsburg, VT, his son, Dennis Young and his husband, Stephen Burkhardt, of Felton, PA, his daughter, Karen McKinney, of Stormville, NY, and his step-daughter, Michelle Vice, of Demopolis.  In addition to his sister, Laura, he also leaves behind 4 nieces and 6 adoring grandchildren. Harvey is predeceased by his sister, Joyce A. Young, of Enfield, Connecticut and brother, Neil A. Young, of Springfield.
