Born on July 3rd, 1949 in Springfield, Massachusetts, Gregory A. Webb was a lifelong resident of Springfield, MA. He was the youngest of three Webb children, with his late parents being Louis Sam Webb and Laura Estelle (Graves) Webb. Gregory's older brother, Ronald, had passed away, but he has a sister named Andrea "Binky" Hayes. From a young age, Gregory displayed natural athletic abilities and excelled in various sports. Whether it was football, basketball, or baseball, he seemed to have a special touch that made every sport come alive under his skillful hands. His exceptional talent did not go unnoticed, and even at a young age, scouts from the mighty New England Patriots took notice of him. But Gregory's love for sports was not limited to organized games. He found solace and joy in spending time by the water, casting lines and reeling in fish. Fishing became his sanctuary, a place where he could connect with nature and find peace. Whether it was bluefish, catfish, or porgies, Greg had a knack for landing impressive catches. Gregory's character was not solely defined by his athleticism and love for fishing. Beneath his athletic aura beat a heart of quiet dedication and unwavering passion. This humble grace earned him the prestigious "First Black New England All-Star Award," not only because of his athletic mastery but also because of the inspiration he sparked in others. While life took Gregory down a different path, his dedication continued to shine brightly. He joined UniRoyal as an inspector, where his sharp eyes and meticulous focus ensured quality and safety. His unwavering commitment propelled him further, eventually leading him to the role of Chemical Operator at Monsanto, where his expertise and dedication became legendary. Greg knew how to strike a balance between hard work and hearty play. He would spend his leisure time fishing for bluefish, catfish, and porgies, bringing home his catches to clean and fry up. His infamous fried fish, collard greens freshly picked from his own garden, and his mouthwatering meatball burgers were a testament to his diligent attention to detail. In fact, Greg's talents extended beyond his own home, as he became a local landscaper, sharing his impeccable skills with the world. Greg's legacy is one of dedication and delight, serving as a reminder that life's sweetest rewards often bloom at the intersection of hard work, heartfelt play, and the simple joys found by the water's edge. From his athletic achievements to his career and his passion for fishing, Greg's life was lived to the fullest, savored until the very end. On Monday, December 11th, 2023, after a long and valiant fight against illness, our beloved Gregory was called home to his heavenly rest by our Lord and Savior. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, mourned by his devoted daughter, Katina E. Lindsay (husband Jimmy) of Deptford, NJ, and his cherished sons: Charley Lee Jackson (wife Ami) of Springfield, MA, and Allan Webb of Raleigh, NC.
