Geraldine M. Michaud

August 10, 1924 — March 5, 2017

Springfield - Smiling Irish eyes closed and a golden heart stopped beating on March 5, 2017, when Geraldine Marie Michaud, 92, died peacefully with her daughter by her side after a day surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Born during the Great Depression, on August 10, 1924 to Charles and Greta (Upton) Brennan, she endured early hardships that fostered a resilient character of strength, determination, courage and acceptance for all the curve balls life threw her way. Mainly the loss of her husband, Gerald P. Michaud, with whom she shared 66 years with until his passing in 2009, and a mother’s heartbreak with the loss of her son, Dennis M. Michaud, in 2014.

Her character was also woven with threads of compassion, generosity, faith and love. She was a kind friend to many but it was her family, who always came first.  She made sure her children and grandchildren knew her level of commitment, dedication, generosity and love for them. School and sporting events were never missed. Whatever you needed, she had it in her purse or at the “Michaud Emporium.” Always willing and ready to help, her shoulder, though slight, was there to lean on, strong with the ability to comfort. That unconditional love and valiant spirit will sustain and comfort those left behind: her daughter Debra Bartels and her husband Robert. Her “Four Treasures” grandchildren Heather Morice and her husband J.P., Michael Michaud, Brian and Brenda Bartels, great-granddaughter, Elise Michaud and daughter-in-law, Laureen Michaud. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

Our family is grateful for the compassionate care she received at Wingate East Longmeadow.

Private funeral services were held on March 13, 2017 with burial at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. We feel blessed to have had you in our lives for so long, and wish it could be more, but now it’s time to find your wings and let your spirit soar. New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield MA 01108 was entrusted with the arrangements.  Visit www.nefcc.net
