EAST LONGMEADOW – George C. Roumas (Roumeliotis) passed into eternal rest on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Redstone Nursing Home. George was born in Springfield to Christos and Eugenia Roumeliotis, who immigrated to America in the 1920’s. He attended Technical High School and graduated in 1953. He married his childhood sweetheart Midge Zades in 1956. George was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1958 and served in Germany as a Medic and Division Clerk until his discharge in 1960. He then graduated from Wentworth Institute with High Honors. He became a contract Tool Designer working primarily in the aerospace industry. As a consequence, George and Midge traveled extensively in the U.S. and visited many interesting and historical locations. They settled in Austin, TX as a home base. From there, they also vacationed in Canada, Mexico and Greece. Upon Midge’s death on January 16, 2011 George returned to East Longmeadow to make his home with his sister Alice. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in East Longmeadow and a member of AHEPA serving as treasurer in the Austin, TX chapter. George was predeceased by his father in 1944. His mother and sister died in 1974. He was an avid reader, a history buff and very well read on political subjects. He was a great story teller. Most importantly, he loved his Yankees. Alice wishes to thank the Baystate VNA for their compassion and dedicated care, especially Brenda Curry, Elizabeth Fanning and Carol Schulte. He leaves behind his sister Alice to remember and love him. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 8:30 AM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC proceeding to the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA for burial with military honors.
