Springfield - George L. Berman, 64, passed away at home on October 25, 2016 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Springfield, MA on June 3, 1952 to the late Allen and Flora (Ruben) Berman, he was a lifelong resident and worked in sales for many years. He proudly served his country in the US Army during The Vietnam War.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Cathie (Thomas) Berman, son Eric Berman and wife Colleen of West Sayville, NY, daughter Jessica Price and husband Francisco of Suffolk, VA, daughter Tarra Devine and husband Dwain of Springfield, MA. George also is leaving behind his loving mother-in-law Jane Thomas of Springfield, MA, sister Phyllis Evans of East Longmeadow, MA; grandchildren: Emily and Jackson Devine and Kayla and Brooke Berman; sister-in-law Dr. Lesa Thomas and husband Dr. Jose Diaz of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico and Mary Ann Thomas, of Springfield, MA brothers-in-law Norman Thomas of Springfield, MA David Thomas and wife Lee of North Dartmouth, MA, and Frank Orr of West Springfield, MA as well as many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his sister Ida Orr and brother-in-law David Evans as well as his father-in-law Norman E Thomas.
The family will receive friends on November 1, 2016 from 8-9:15 AM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA.
Funeral services with full military honors will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. The family is most appreciative of the medical care given by Dr. Wilson Mertens at the D’Amour Cancer Center, the staff there and also Baystate VNA & Hospice.
