Holyoke – Geoffrey L. MacDonald, 70, passed away on October 23, 2018, after a very brief and very brave battle with brain cancer.
Born in Boston, Geoff grew up in Holyoke and graduated Holyoke High School in 1965. As the state diving champion he helped lead the HHS swim team to the state title his senior year. Having lived, worked, and raised his family in Agawam, Geoff continued his career as an engineer in Atlanta, GA before retiring and returning to Holyoke. A quintessential Boston sports fan, he was appreciated for his charming nature, his lengthy stories, and his wry sense of humor.
Geoff was predeceased by his wife Patricia (Staples) MacDonald, his father Gordon MacDonald, and his sister Jacqueline Jordan.
He is survived by his mother Lucille MacDonald and his brother Glenn MacDonald, both of West Springfield, his son Bryan MacDonald and his wife Jennifer of Longmeadow, his son Gregg MacDonald of Orlando, FL, his sister-in-law Carol Quinn of Pepperell, MA, his companion Ellen Sullivan of Holyoke, his grandchildren Sarah, Paul, and Sean, and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
A graveside service will be held on October 27, 2018 at 10am at Springfield St. Cemetery in Feeding Hills. New England Funeral & Cremation Center LLC, 25 Mill St., Springfield, MA has been entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit
