SPRINGFIELD – Felix Athelston Straughn, 87, passed away at home on August 16, 2016 surrounded by his loving wife of 63 years and his family. Born on November 16, 1928 in Barbados, West Indies to the late Alfonzo Roberts and Maude Straughn, he was the owner of Staughn Construction Company.
A past Grand Exalted Ruler of the IBPOEW, he was also a second vice president of the New England States and East Canada. He played semi-pro soccer in Barbados, West Indies, cricket, dominos and was a league bowler.
Predeceased by his brother Adolphus Roberts and sister Hildred Freeman, he leaves his wife Naomi; sons Norman of Northampton, Richard (Kim) of MD and Dwayne of FL; daughters Yvonne of MD and Patricia (David Ferris) of Turners Falls; brother Frederick of England; 9 grandchildren; many great grandchildren, nieces, their families and church and Elks family.
His funeral will be held on August 20, 2016 at 11:30 AM at Greater New Life Christian Center 1323 Worcester Street, Indian Orchard with a viewing from 10 AM until the time of the service.
