Eugene D. Smith, Jr.

Eugene D. Smith, Jr., 74, a 40-year Agawam, MA resident, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Greenville, SC on April 10, 1949 to the late Eugene D. Smith, Sr. and Patricia (Turner) Smith, he and his family moved to Miami when he was 9. He graduated from Miami Central with a trade as a tool and dye apprentice. After travelling around the country, he settled in Massachusetts where he met his former wife Debra Dustin and adopted her daughter Michelle Smith; then had two beautiful children Rebecca and Eugene III. Over the course of his life, he owned several machine shops, mentored youth for the Rosie Robotic team and Agawam High students and enjoyed rock hounding and working. Predeceased by his parents, daughter Michelle Smith, sister Monica Barnwell and a granddaughter Amanda Croisetiere, he is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Moore and husband Benjamin Moore of Agawam, his son Eugene D. Smith, III and his wife Heather Smith of Chicopee, brothers: Robert Smith (Debbie), Richard Smith (Kathie) and James Smith and partner Mark Pyles; sister Francis Franetic (John), grandchildren: Brittany Gilman, Ashley Deschenes and Avery Smith; great-grandchildren Jaylani Mercado and Aurora Deschenes and many nieces, nephews and cousins, also his former wife Debra (Dustin) Belisle and her son Richard Belisle, Jr. A graveside service will be held on September 27, 2023 at 2PM in Island Pond Cemetery, Ludlow, MA. Any donations or flowers will be greatly appreciated and may be forwarded to Rebecca Moore, 11 Randall St., Agawam, MA 01001.
