Eugene Couser

Springfield - Eugene Couser, Jr., 68, was a lifelong resident of Springfield, MA. He passed away from cancer on July 19, 2023. Eugene was born in Baltimore, MD on April 15, 1955 to the late Almarine (Arrington) McCoy and Eugene Couser, Sr. He moved to Springfield at an early age and graduated from Commerce High School before attending Westfield State College, where he graduated with a degree in history. In addition to being a social worker for the State of Massachusetts, he was also a technician for ADT. Eugene was an amazing cook and had a great sense of humor. He was a sports fan and played several sports growing up, including basketball and tennis.

Eugene was predeceased by his parents and younger brother Brian McCoy. He is survived by his wife, Melanie (Orr) Couser; his children Kimberly Couser, Jessica Brown Redditt, Eugene "Joey" Brown, Aaron Thayer, and Necole Hughes; and his seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Robert (Ingrid) McCoy and Darren (Nicoe) McCoy, his nieces and nephews and other family members with a special mention to his Aunt Susie (Ash) Wiggins, who was like a sister as they grew up.

A period of visitation will be held from 2-3PM on Friday, August 4, 2023 at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA. Please visit Eugene's memorial page at www.nefcc.net for expressions of sympathy.
