Edward Charles Mercier

East Longmeadow-Edward Charles Mercier Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on August 21. He grew up in Longmeadow, the son of Edward Mercier and Julia (Dargy) Mercier. Edward was devoted to his loving wife of 54 years, Shirlee (LeBlond) Mercier, who passed in 2003. They raised their 3 children in East Longmeadow, Jeri Ellen Walker (who passed in 1992), Mark Mercier and Wayne Mercier. Ed worked for several years as traffic manager of the A&P Tea Co. Later he and Shirlee worked side by side as managers of Executive House, Brush Hill and Park Edge Apartments. Together they enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. In1990 they moved to Hendersonville, NC where they enjoyed a wonderful retirement. During WWII Edward proudly served in the Pacific on the USS Hugh Purvis. In addition to his sons, he will be deeply missed by his daughter-in-law, Melanie Safford Mercier, his grandsons David and Eric Walker and granddaughters Richelle and Kristina Mercier. Ed also leaves his 2 sisters, Jeanette Gallant and Irene Benson. Funeral will be private. New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill St., Springfield, MA is assisting the family.
