SPRINGFIELD – Donald R. Welch, 92, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. Donald worked as a test toll man for New England Telephone Co. He enjoyed gardening, skiing, all sports, airplanes, his monthly luncheons with his New England Telephone friends, going to Forest Park and gathering every morning at the McDonald’s on Allen Street with friends.
Predeceased by his parents, his wife Marianne who passed away July 11, 1967 and his brother Robert, he leaves his children Donald Welch, Jr. (Sandy) of Chatham, MA, William Welch (Barbara) of Springfield, MA, Barbara Welch of West Springfield, MA and Kathleen Welch-Foster of Feeding Hills, MA; grandchildren Sarah Thibodeau (Mike), and Jeffrey Welch (Cristina) and Christina Foster; great grandchildren Owen and Teagan Welch and Noelle and Nina Thibodeau and a sister-in-law Rosetta Welch and her children.
Funeral services will be held on September 16, 2015 at 2 PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA with visitation from 1-2 PM. Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
