Cynthia S. Pirnie

August 1, 1942 — January 30, 2011

Springfield - Cynthia S. Pirnie, 68, passed away on January 30, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center.  She was born in Springfield on August 1, 1942 to Walter and Reatha (Desmond) Theroux and was a lifelong resident, graduating from the High School of Commerce and then earning her license as an LPN from Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical High School.  She was a devoted spiritualist and licensed healer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and had been employed for many years as a nurse at Heritage Hall in Agawam.  Her grandparents had lived in Enfield, MA, one of the five towns which were relocated with the construction of Quabbin Reservoir.  When she was diagnosed with her illness she made a “Bucket List.” She and her family watched the Food Network, “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” and selected restaurants to visit.  She had a great time on these travels.  One favorite memory for all was her visit to “Super Duper Weenie” in Fairfield, Ct after which she went to Bridgeport where she was able to place her feet in the ocean one last time.  She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings: Harold, Allan and Carol Theroux.  She leaves her husband of 51 years, James G. Pirnie; sons: Mark Pirnie of Chicopee, MA, Dale Pirnie and his wife Ann and Matthew Pirnie of Springfield, MA; daughter Lynn Hendricks and her husband Allen of Chicopee, MA; her sister Janet Hardin of Springfield, MA; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and her best friend of over 30 years, Barbra Burgess of Hampden, MA.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill St., Springfield followed by burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Belchertown. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. For directions or to express online condolences, please visit www.nefcc.net .
