SPRINGFIELD--Mr. Chewan passed away on January 4, 2013. Born on January 1, 1924 in Singidara, Bhutan to Dadhi Ram Upadhaya Dulal and Haima Wati (Devkota) Dulal, he was was a family priest in his religious commmunity. He was a Hindu follower. Mr. Upadhaya was forcibly expelled from Bhutan with his family members in 1992. Once he was forced to leave the country he went to Nepal and took asylum in Nepal. He came to the United States on December 12, 2011 to Springfield, Massachusetts. He passed away at his home in Springfield, Massachusetts on Friday, January 4, 2012 at 10:50PM. He spent 18 years of difficult life in the refugee camp in Nepal with limited foreign aid. He opted the third country resettlement and came to the United States with the hope of a better life for his family members and better education for his grandchildren. He leaves his wife Ganga Devi Upadhaya of Springfield; five sons: Ambika Prasad Dulal of Australia, Bharat Dulal of Nepal, Lok Nath Upadhaya and Narad Sharma of Springfield, Massachusetts and Uday Sharma of Nepal; his daughter Bhakta Maya Gautam of Texas; 19 grandchildren: Chandrama Chhetri of Australia, Bishnu Dahal of South Dakota, Swastika Khatiwada and Asish Dulal of Australia, Subash Dulal and Tilak Dulal of Nepal, Prasad Dulal, Tilak Upadhaya and Sabita Kafley of Springfield, Massachusetts, Radhika Niroula of North Dakota, Tika Sharma, Gopi Sharma and Basu Sharma of Springfield, Massachusetts, Sunny Sharma of Nepal, Sushila Adhikari of Texas, Sakhila Dhungel and Puspa Khakai of Pennsylvania, Balab and Gagan Gautam of Texas and many great-grandchilren. Funeral services will be held at New England Funeral & Cremation Center,LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, Massachusetts on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 beginning at 10:00AM. Services will be lead by Hari Adhikari. After the ritual of preparing his body, a procession will form to the Springfield Cemetery where cremation is scheduled.
