Carolyn E. Garutti

Carolyn Elizabeth (Haslam) Garutti, 87, beloved wife of seventy-one years to Marcello E. Garutti, Sr., passed away on August 12, 2022.
A fifty-nine year Springfield, MA resident, she was born on May 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Ernest and Edith (Cooley) Haslam. She was a special needs bus driver for Springfield schools for decades and disaster evacuation bus driver during the toxic chlorine fire in Springfield in 1988. Carolyn was also a transport driver for patients and families for the Ronald McDonald House. She loved camping and she and Marcello had a seasonal site near the NH coast for over thirty five years, going there every summer and remained close friends with other campers.
In addition to her husband, she leaves to mourn her passing, her son Marcello Garutti, Jr. and spouse Ruth of Carlise, PA and her daughters: Susan Alexander of Chicopee, MA and Shirley Garutti of East Windsor, Ct. She is also survived by her brother John Haslam and his family of Greenland, NH, ten grandchildren and her godson, twelve great grandchildren and one “special telephone buddy”: six great-great grandchildren and one on the way. Sadly, she was predeceased by her son Richard Garutti on July 1, 1996.
A graveside service for Carolyn and Richard will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 10AM at Hillcrest Park Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
