Betty L. Johnson

Betty L. (Benway) Johnson, 73, beloved wife of the late Roger Johnson, Jr. (January 30, 2018), passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2020 surrounded by family.
She was born in Springfield on June 19, 1947, daughter of the late Lewis and Annie (Weagle) Benway.
Betty was a lifelong resident of East Longmeadow.
Before her retirement, Betty worked many years for Monarch Life Insurance and Shaker Bowl. Betty loved being surrounded by friends and family. She was always prepared for impromptu cookouts, and gatherings of all sorts. She was an active member of the Central High Marching Band as a booster. She loved being surrounded by the kids and enjoyed watching them compete, even attending the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC.
She is survived by two nephews: Wayne (Mary) Freeman and Derek (Jenny) Freeman of Springfield and two step-daughters: Kristen (Michael) Kolb and Karen (Nelson) McLeod of Monson. She is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her sister Ruth Freeman.
Graveside services for Betty and Roger will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 2PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Masks and social distancing are required.
