GRANBY—Bertha Szlachetka, 88, passed away January 18, 2016 at Wingate at South Hadley. Born in West Springfield on September 12, 1927 to John and Anna (Turek) Borowiec, she grew up on a farm and retired as a supervisor for AT Surgical Supply. She enjoyed needlepoint, gardening, drives through the countryside and cooking for her family.
Predeceased by her parents, husband Richard, daughter Linda Carter, brother Michael Borowiec and sisters Wanda Kagan, Stella Telasmanik, Anne Stadnicki and Helen Rostowski, she leaves her son Wesley Szachetka and his significant other Linda Aird of Granby, daughter Cheryl Ann Majgier and her husband John of Ludlow, brother Bernard Borowiec and his wife Jane of Chicopee, sister Mabel Fredette of Enfield , son-in-law Mitchell Carter of VA, grandchildren Mitchell Carter II and Gerald Carter, Tammy Spencer, Tara Brandt and Jonathan and Crystal Majgier, great-grandchildren Cullen and Kohen Carter, Maxwell Brandt, Abrianna, Hannah and Sarah Fuller, and Miles Spencer.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 9-11 AM on January 26, 2016 at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC, 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA with a service at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Chicopee. Visit www.nefcc.net
