HATFIELD-Benjamin H. Bassett, Jr., 64, of Hatfield, MA, formerly of Harwich and Norwell, MA died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 in Hatfield, MA. He was the beloved father of Travis S.B. Bassett of Amherst, MA and brother of Debra A. Bassett of Harwich, MA. He is also survived by an Aunt, Loretta Adams of Hanover, MA, her family and many life-long cherished friends. Born in Hyannis, MA he was the son of Benjamin H. Bassett, Sr. and Gertrude M. (Frazier) Bassett of Harwich, MA. A graduate of Harwich High School in 1967, he later studied art and photography at the Art Institute of Boston. From 1970 to 1972 he served our country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany as Company Clerk. Ben worked as a general contractor in the building industry, most recently in Western Massachusetts. He was also a talented photographer and loved sharing his work with others. He was an engaging conversationalist and loved meeting people. His interest included all forms of art, golf, baseball, reading and walking. He especially treasured cooking, camping and exploring with his son. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside memorial service for Ben at Island Pond Cemetery, Harwich Center, MA on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM.
