WILBRAHAM – Barbara Geanacopoulos Reed, 88, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts on June 1, 1925.
She was one of eight children of the late Angelo and Anastasia Geanacopoulos who emigrated from Peloponnesus, Greece. Her three brothers, Charlie Geanacopoulos, Judge Socrates Geanacopoulos and Peter Geanacopoulos and four sisters Bessie Geanacopoulos, Koula Jones, Tula Lewis and Maggie Capsis have predeceased her. Barbara graduated from Chicopee High School in 1943 and AIC in 1948. Barbara worked at Westover Air Force Base as a secretary for Intelligence Defense.
She is predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Lloyd Reed who passed away in 1991. Together they moved to Ormond Beach, FL in 1980 where she worked at Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center and had a large circle of friends. She leaves her two sons, Frederick J. Benoit and his wife Karen of Wilbraham and Raymond F. Benoit, Jr. of South Hadley, four grandsons, Adam J. Benoit who predeceased her in 2006, Joseph C. Benoit of Chicopee, Ed D’Amato of Ludlow and Thomas Gormally of Fort Lauderdale, FL, one granddaughter, Rebecca O’Keefe-D’Amato and two great grandchildren, Kloud D’Amato and Kyla O’Keefe of Wilbraham.
VIsitation will be on Friday April 11, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at New England Funeral & Cremation Center, LLC 25 Mill Street, Springfield, MA. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 9:00AM in Saint Elizabeth Church, Ludlow, MA.
